On My Way...Thanks Everyone Back Home for the Great Send Off!

Boy, it was great to be back home and quickly catch up with everyone!  It was a wirlwind tour of Iowa and WI...exhausting actually.  Taking it easy getting back on the trail...slowing down...going to see, like Victoria said, the beauty of the trail!

  1. All I could do the other night is sit back and say, now that is a thru-hiker! Sorry for the sloppy message. Off to Bama in the morning. Don't miss the Allenbury in Boiling Springs. Grab a sixpack at the tavern in town (cans for poolside). The resort offers Rooms, a dinner buffet, b-fast buffet, nationaly acclaimed play house, full bar, games room, etc... I saw a regular customers bill for the weekend. Over $700! For you? The whole shebang excluding drinks about $70. Well worth it if you are getting those half way blues. Get in early and log a good nero. Many pass on it because of the $ but is is a better break than Duncannon and worth it. The walk out is flat field walking most of the way to Duncannon. Nice on a cool day, hot otherwise with no tree cover. There is a climb at the end with a steep poorly maintained decline into town. Not too bad though. We did it late at night to make it to the Doyle just before last call. The Doyle. Good burgers and beer. You have not seen rocks or snakes yet. You have seen the nicest shelters on the trail though. Snakes get bad after Duncannon and worse after Port Clinton. Look for nice pice of blue obsidion on the ground after the climb out of Port Clinton. Stop in the Port Clinton Fire Station for a beer. Just ring the bell. Stop in Palmetown. A great town. Stay at the "Jail". Free apple at the Country harvest. Goood food at Palmertown Hotel. Rocks get Bad after Eckville Shelter. The Last 20 miles into Delaware Water Gap are crazy.

  3. Hey Don,

Hope you are still hanging in there and staying ahead of those severe thunderstorms. Just had a batch run through Massachusetts, where I was with Chris and a friend of his to check out Boston College. Impressive what a little bit of money (okay, more than a little bit of money) can do.

Had my scan yesterday ... will know the results in another week. Another irony is that the patient is always the LAST to know (the scans are read and posted at Froedert so my surgeon probably already has them).

Anyway, let me know if the trail changes at all or if it is Long Trail-esque the whole way. Now that IS a long trail.
