I Gots the AT Trail Blues...

I can't deny it, this is a major low point for me. Between the heat, humidity, bugs and rocks it's been a slow tough hall. It doesn't get any easier over the next 75 miles as we get to hike through a major Superfund site where the waste from zinc mining leaves the trail barren and exposed. Probably not as bad as it seems but, thought I would never say this, can't wait to be in New Jersey!

Feels like a huge breech between here and beautiful New England. As they say, one step at a time...

Were are you now? The climb out of Palmertown is actually pretty awesome. Beautiful in its own way. Get a very early start to beat the heat though. It is a little taste of NH and ME. Stay at the Police Station. Watch for ticks during the exposed parts on top. They are wood ticks and carry disease too. Hang in there! Do what you have to do to distract yourself. Stop in every town get out of the heat whatever it takes. You don't know how many hikers can't honestly say the hiked PA. I found it to be harder than Maine. If you stick it out through this you can do anything. But just so you know.... The strech from Windgap to The water Gap is rocky as hell. The Pocono inn had $1 Bud pints all night last year. Drink up! Bear bag in NJ! you will see a bear here. And not to break your heart or anything...but...NJ is pretty rocky all the way to Unionville. Also, take advantage of the Deli's near the roads. Great places to beat the heat for a couple hours and have some cold beers. Everything in NJ and early NY is $ only so carry some or be prepared for ATM fees. Leave the Delaware water gap Early in the AM. Very long exposed road walk out. Same with the walk out of Unionville. Stay at the Mayor's, The out house or what ever they are calling it now(Unionville). Includes Dinner, B-fast and one free Bush light. Each additional beed is .50 up to five. You will get cussed during you stay here. Sun fish pond is good swiming after your climb out of the gap. You could probably leave town in the evening and make it up to the Mohican center by dark. Just some quick notes. Be carefull in that heat! Start early take siestas and hike till dark
